France Examines Online Retail Giants Following Adult Toy Incident
E-commerce platforms including Shein, Temu, AliExpress and Wish are presently under investigation in France for the offence of enabling minors to access explicit content on their services, the French judicial authorities stated on Tuesday.
The nation's consumer watchdog had brought to light the four firms to the prosecution service on Sunday after raising worries about the sale of minor-looking intimate products on the Shein website during the weekend.
The investigative authorities explained that the online services are being examined over violent, explicit or unacceptable messages that can be viewed by minors.

These platforms are furthermore being examined over the dissemination of material related to youngsters that are of a adult nature, the agency said.

The company asserted that the listings in question contravened its policies and were removed once it was informed of them.
"Vendors found to break or attempting to evade these standards will be penalised in line with our rules," AliExpress declared in a statement.
On this Monday, the retailer said it had banned the sale of all adult toys on its platform internationally. The based in Singapore company also said that it would terminate all merchant IDs involved in the prohibited sale of the childlike items and implement more rigorous measures on its platform.

The French consumer watchdog, the Directorate General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control, had remarked that the products' product information and classification left "minimal uncertainty as to the child pornography character" of the merchandise.
The scrutiny of the retailer comes as the business, which was established in the People's Republic of China, prepares for the opening on Wednesday of its maiden permanent brick-and-mortar outlet in the French Republic.
