Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a life-threatening incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when a pair of track officials crossed the track immediately ahead of his car

The dangerous situation occurred on the third circuit when safety workers were spotted on the racing surface as Lawson was returning to the race following an early pitstop to replace his compromised front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his team engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I came out on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and there were just two individuals dashing across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, truthfully, it was extremely hazardous"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a live track marshals can be permitted to just dash across the track in that manner. I don't understand the reason, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the global motorsport federation, is thoroughly reviewing the events

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was advised that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" stated the FIA

"In the third rotation, marshals were informed and made ready to go onto the racing surface and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had made a pit stop, the orders to send personnel were withdrawn and a caution signal was raised in that section"

"The examination is ongoing what occurred following that moment"
