The Israeli government has strongly denied the report, calling it "misleading and false".
An official claimed the commission members of serving as "Hamas proxies" and using "misinformation recycled and echoed by others".
Israeli officials maintain that their actions are aimed at neutralizing Hamas and not targeting non-combatants.
Context
The conflict started after an unprecedented attack on Israeli communities by Hamas on October 7th, during which approximately 1,200 individuals were killed and over 250 were taken hostage.
Since then, Israeli attacks have resulted in the deaths of over 64,000 of individuals in Gaza, according to health authorities.
Situation in Gaza
- Most of the population has been repeatedly displaced
- The vast majority of homes are damaged or destroyed
- Healthcare and sanitation systems have collapsed
- Famine has been declared in parts of the region
Legal Implications
The commission emphasizes that countries worldwide have an obligation to stop and punish such acts, adding that inaction could amount to involvement.
At the same time, the International Court of Justice is reviewing a complaint brought by a member state that charges Israeli forces of genocidal actions.
